Mulata de Córdoba
My “polvos del buen querer” or “love powders”—used to win the affection of a desired person—were very famous for their effectiveness. Another one of my foolproof remedies, and among the most requested, were bird amulets meant to obtain and keep love. Men were to carry them in their trouser pockets, while women were to keep them tucked into their petticoats.
Mysterious and seductive, the mulata Soledad is the protagonist of Córdoba’s most famous legend. In her room, you will learn details about the magical life of the colonial era, about the African presence in New Spain, and you will uncover the mystery that surrounds her story.
Look out the window and you’ll be able to see her sculpture behind the bars.
